So far today we’ve found 5 blue whales on both the morning and afternoon trips along with feeding pods of long-beaked common dolphins and this afternoon we encountered a huge pod of around 500 short-beaked common dolphins! We have another trip going out at 5:30 so stay tuned.
We made some more whale friends and dolphriends during our sunset trip! At the very start of our trip we saw about ~3 inshore bottlenose dolphins near Ocean Beach Jetty. Not too long after, we saw several small scattered pods of long-beaked common dolphins. In total we saw about ~50 LB common dolphins. Then, we were pleasantly greeted by one blue whale that was super close to our boat and even lifted its flukes! Throughout our trip, we got close looks at ~4 brilliant blue whales and saw plenty more out in the distance. On our way back to Quivera basin we enjoyed a beautiful sunset!
