We had an amazing morning with more than TEN Blue whales sighted about 10-miles from shore! We left the Mission Bay jetties and cruised out to the drop-off and that’s when we started to see spouts out in the distance. The spouts were all around us! We caught up with a cow/calf pair as well as small groups of 2 and 3 Blues hanging out together! While we were waiting for a Blue whale to surface a pod of ~30 Offshore Bottlenose dolphins passed through! On our way home we sighted a pod of ~75 Long-beaked Common dolphins! They were traveling south but they zoomed over to ride the bow and surf our wake!
The whales have moved off shore but EVEN MORE have moved in! Every where we looked once we got out there – there were multiple whales in view AT ALL TIMES! We got to park and watch as the whales came by! One decided to give us a VERY close pass. We could see the water slipping off its Liquid Metal glimmering skin in rivulets. Magical is the only way to describe it.
