We had a whale of a time on the Privateer this afternoon! Ocean conditions were perfect with sunny skies and warm weather! We headed out west past the drop-off and encountered several pods of common dolphins throughout the trip. Our first pod consisted of about ~100 long-beaked common dolphins. They were riding along the sides of the Privateer and surfing in our wake. Then, as we continued our journey out further west towards deeper water, we sighted three pods of short-beaked common dolphins. We estimated about ~400 short-beaks were found throughout the trip. We also saw some flying fish, a few kelp patties and two Mola-molas! We have one more trip coming up so please stay tuned!

WOW- what a sunset! Our first encounter of the evening was a small pod of Long-beaked common dolphins who seemed to only want to ride the bow of the boat! As we slowed down and picked up speed, they changed their pace to get the best ride possible. We continued west and spotted at least 200 Short-beaked common dolphins! These guys were dancing in the sunset! Jumps, leaps, body slams, and surfing! On the way home, we enjoyed the most beautiful colors of the sunset…pink skies and orange hues! To end the night, we were greeted by a few inshore bottlenose dolphins as we entered the jetty. See you tomorrow dolfriends!
