GIANT SQUID ALERT!!!!
What a wild day on the Pacific! We got to see some spookies out there today! I guess we’re all getting excited for Halloween early. We were able to net out a dead Moroteuthis Robusta or a Robust Club Hooked Squid! Identified by Bill Gilly – a leading scientist on the subject. We got to touch it, look at its little suckers, get a really good look at its beak. This was SUPER exciting for everyone aboard!
We were able to hang out with a pod of around 250 short beaked common dolphins as well, but the squid really stole the spotlight on this trip.
Our SECOND SPOOKY! Friendly little ocean ghosts, the Risso’s! These unique dolphins fade to a lighter and lighter shade of white the older they get. When they swim just below the surface, the group looks like a group ghosts traveling together. Not a surprise that we see these squid eating dolphins just after finding a species of giant squid!

We had amazing sunset trip with more Striped Marlin sighted than we could count! We saw a school of 5 at the surface swimming nearby. We saw one breach at least 8 times! We spotted a couple of Mola mola, and a single flying fish! We sighted a pod of ~150 Long-beaked Common dolphins that were traveling fast to the SW. We had a brilliant backdrop to enjoy the dolphins – the fiery sunset! We can’t wait to see what’s in store for tomorrow!
