Dreamy glassy ocean days are what we always hope for out here! The conditions could not have been better. Good visibility allowed us to locate multiple pods of VERY low key dolphins. They almost appeared to be napping when we showed up to the scene – but they were so chill we were able to turn the boat off and listen to them communicating! Dolphins emit high pitched squeaks and clicks to utilize their echo location – we were able to hear it all as we turned the motors of and just drifted with ~ 300 short beaked common dolphin. Risso’s were also on the menu today! We found a relaxed pod of Risso’s that had a singular bottlenose hanging out with them. These usually shy dolphins lined up in perfect formation and cruised right next to us for a long time!

One more to go!

We had a relaxing warm summer night this sunset trip! We headed southwest towards the 9-mile bank! It was pretty quiet for the first part of the trip however, around ~10 miles offshore we encountered a fun and spunky pod of ~75 short-beaked common dolphins! They were leaping out of the water so high right in front of the sunset! It was so gorgeous out there this evening! On our way back, we encountered another pod of ~25 short-beaked common dolphins! Late summer nights are such a treat on the Pacific Ocean! We’d love to have you guys on board the Privateer to share some ocean magic with you! More fun coming up tomorrow!
