Why was the Humpwhale so good at making friends?- Because they had a whaley big heart! Today, we made so many whale friends, dolphriends and even some sea lion friends! We headed down southwest of Mission Bay towards the Coronado Islands. We had amazing visibility, sunny skies and thrilling sea conditions. We could even see into Mexico, spotting the border wall between San Diego & Tijuana. About three miles west of Cabrillo National monument, we found a massive spout from a Humpback whale. The Humpback whale led us towards a massive feeding frenzy of ~250 long-beaked common dolphins, ~12 sea lions, 1 brown booby, several elegant terns and California brown pelicans. The humpback whale lifted its tail flukes several times and even crossed our bow! Then, we noticed another spout for a total of TWO humpbacks in the area!! The LB common dolphins then started to STAMPEDE towards the Privateer! The second humpback whale became curious towards our boat and came up near our starboard bow! It went down for a dive and showed off its beautiful tail flukes! After hanging out with the two humpback whales, we caught up with another amazing pod of ~250 long-beaked common dolphins! It was dolphinitely an action-packed day today on the Pacific Ocean. Please come join us tomorrow for some more salty fun!
