Did you know that a dolphins echo location is SO GOOD that we still have personnel dolphins in the navy? YEAH! Us humans with all of our abilities to invent highly capable technology – STILL havent been able to invent something that can more reliably detect a bomb hidden under water – than a dolphin can! They can detect details down to the species of fish they are hunting.
We had a very consistent day of INCREDIBLE dolphins!
Our morning trip had 100 short- beaked common dolphins leaping joyfully all around our boat far offshore! It seemed as the day went on we found more and more dolphins! Our afternoon trip had HUNDREDS of long- beaked common dolphins that lead us to a sneaky minke whale! We got a few good looks at the minke but decided to continue our search for more cooperative wild life. We found even more dolphins and a massive mola mola, the largest boney fish in the sea. Setting off to a cloudy but stunningly dramatic horizon, our sunset trip had beautiful conditions with about 5 pods of dolphins along the way, a mix of the sub- species of common dolphins bot Long and Short – Beaked commons with on VERY sharky mola mola. This fish had US ALL convinced it was a top predator at the speed and direction it was moving. Once we finally got close enough – we had a laugh about how we all got duped by a massive harmless fish instead of one of the oceans greatest predators.

We’ll be back out tomorrow! Looking foreward to sharing all this magic with you!
