We’ve got TONS of anchovies scattered along the dro off that lead to us finding thousands of dolphins today! Long-beaks in the morning and short- beaks in the afternoon. The long-beaks were scattered over miles and followed by equally as many birds. The Short -beaks were all concentrated together scavenging lazing but mostly getting rambunctious and leaping HIGH out of the water playfully.
We had a fun sunset trip with three species of dolphin sighted! We zoomed out to the SW and had our first sighting of ~100 Long-beaked Common dolphin! They were really interactive with the Privateer! We watched cruise up to the boat to play in the wake! We spotted a few cow/calf pairs with some being as small as a football! We waved goodbye as we continued out toward deeper water! We got to the 9-mile bank and spotted a couple splashes that appeared out of nowhere! Offshore bottlenose must have just come up from a dive because they surprised us! They were pretty energetic too! They breached, porpoised and tail-slapped all around us. We noticed just one calf in the mix. Many of them had a lot of scratches and rake marks on the their bodies! We assume a rough-in-tumble kind of pod! We ventured to the north along the steep ridge out there and spotted a huge pod of ~400 Short-beaked Common dolphin! They were super spread out, but everywhere you looked there they were, jumping out of the water! We loved to see the differences between the Long-beaks and these very energetic shorties! We spotted about 5 Mola mola’s along the way and enjoyed the smooth ride in!
We have plenty of trips this weekend, so we hope you will join us for a trip soon!
