MINKE MADNESS aboard the Privateer! We sighted ~500 Common dolphins and 2 Minke whales on our amazing sunset trip!
We left Mission bay and headed west and once we got to about 3-miles from shore, we spotted a fast-moving pod of ~100 Long-beaked Common dolphins! They were cruising up to our boat to surf our wake and ride the bow! One of them was showing off by breaching over and over! All of sudden they left our boat and STAMPEDED toward the coast! Passengers were squealing with excitement! We continued further out and spotted another fun pod of ~200 Long-beaked Common dolphins that were headed north along the drop-off. We spotted tiny calves all around the boat. We enjoyed watching the dolphins surround our boat! We spotted more splashes to the west and found a huge pod of ~200 short-beaked common dolphins! They were traveling to the south. They were very spread out and could see them all the way to the horizon! We were just about to turn around when Captain John spotted a Minke whale in front of our boat! It surfaced a couple times and it was headed west. It switched sides of the boat and likely went under our boat to do so. Then it popped up beside us at our stern! Then we went all neutral and it surfaced again beside us, MUGGING us! It was amazing the whole boat screamed! Then we saw a spout to the west of us and then a couple min later we noticed it was second Minke whale! The sunset was beautiful! We even got a hint of a Green flash!
Every trip is always different, please come out soon!
