IT’S SPOOKY SEASON! We had possibly the most unique sighting I’ve ever seen on the ocean! About 5 miles off shore, a bat flew onto our boat! They are the ONLY flying mammals. We encountered a sleepy pod of short beaked common dolphins that had TONS of little babies with it. The dolphins were playing alongside our boat and zooming up the the bow to catch a ride!
On the return home – we encountered a pod of long beaked common dolphins that were feeling especially frisky.
We’ve got one more trip today, Stay tuned!

Our sunset trip started off with a small pod of ~5 inshore bottlenose dolphins found in the channel at the jetties. We saw multiple scattered baitballs as we headed further out passed the drop-off. We also encountered 4 pods long-beaked common dolphins. At least ~500 individual LB common dolphins found throughout the trip. We were hoping to see our larger humpback friends with the amount of large baitballs we were seeing scattered about as they like to feed on northern anchovies. We didn’t see any baleen whales on the sunset trip however, it was a great omen seeing so many large bait balls because the baleen whales will follow the food! Please join us tomorrow for more spooky adventures on the Pacific Ocean!
