Today has been a whale-y beautiful day on the water!! We started off on a foggy adventure, which cleared up as the day went on. The water visibility was great, too! Our AM trip was a bit quiet this morning, but we got some amazing looks at some short-beaked and long-beaked common dolphins, and two mola-molas! The mola were feeding on the vallella-vallella at the surface, and it was SO cool to see them fully surfacing to take in huge gulps of food.

On our PM trip, things ramped up a bit. We left the bay and made our way out into open ocean. Eventually, we found ourselves swarmed by a small pod of long-beaked common dolphins, and then sighted a spout in the distance! We found two humpback whales, and watched them continuously surfacing as the dolphins splashed around. See some of the fun shots below that we got of the humpbacks’ flukes! We decided to leave the humpbacks after hanging out for awhile, as we noticed a much larger pod of long-beaked common dolphins creating quite the splash off in the distance. We caught up with them, or more like they caught up with us!! Every direction we looked there were dolphins, and you could hear them vocalizing and squeaking in excitement as they rode the wake of our boat. We also saw SO many little babies in this pod! We included a photo of one below, that still had its fetal folds. Talk about ADORABLE! This was very fitting for Mother’s Day, getting to recognize our super FIN-TASTIC human moms and moms of the ocean!!!

We have our sunset trip later today, and will update you soon. Stay tuned!

A GORGEOUS orange & pink sunset coupled with some whales and dolphins, what more could you ask for?:) We had such a lovely time on the ocean today! We found a humpback whale located around ~3 miles offshore! It popped up on our port side a few times, and gave us a nice tail lift! We saw the spout a couple more times from a distance but unfortunately, it gave us the slip! We also found an awesome pod of ~40 offshore bottlenose dolphins! The pod had so many baby dolphins swimming closely next to mom! Perfect for Mother’s Day! We enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the way home and warm weather the entire trip! We have more salty fun coming up tomorrow! Please stay tuned 🙂
