The Pacific had a whale of a surprise waiting for us today! 🐋

One northbound gray whale gave us amazing looks as it blasted up the coast. This whale may have been getting a little hangry and very ready to be back home in those cold, nutrient-dense waters of Alaska. We could tell it didn’t have a ton of blubber left—the fat pad we usually see behind the blowhole was looking a bit scarce.

Now for the really exciting part 👀👇Our bottom finder was picking up TONS of particulate from about 200–500 feet deep, with some especially dense patches around 400 feet. That could be a lot of things… but in years past, this kind of signal has meant early fin whale arrivals and even an early blue whale or two!

If this is krill down there, we could be seeing some really big baleen showing up very soon. Stay tuned!
