Happy World Whale Day!!

On the afternoon excursion aboard the Privateer we caught up with a shy pod of ~150 Long beaked common dolphins having a lazy Sunday afternoon about a mile from the Mission Bay jetties.

We hung out with them as the rolled through the mild swell towards the north.

We got a call from a call from our friends at Gone Whale watching about a single humpback was seen traveling south.

This gentle giant kept us guessing what it was up to changing up its dive times from 8 to 10 mins and periodically performing split dives.

The Humpback felt relaxed as it was hanging close to the boat where we got to enjoy the loudest spouts with our engines off.

Seeing both baleen whales and toothed whales was the perfect way to spend World Whale Day on the Pacific Ocean and the calm before the Storm before the rough weather shows up tomorrow.
