The morning whale watch left us mesmerized by dolphins a plenty! Both long and short beaked common dolphins danced in the morning light! Lots of babies as the spring time trend of seeing calves continues! We even got great looks at the largest bony fish on our planet, the ocean sunfish! After hanging with this large fish, we headed out for more common dolphins before heading home. On our way back to Mission Bay: there she blew! We had a tough time tracking with a mystery baleen whale that we believe was a juvenile fin or potentially a Bryde’s whale! It was doing a lot of shallow surfacing and long times under water so the mystery may never be solved but we were happy to see a baleen whale anyway!
The afternoon trip was a repeat of the dolphin extravaganza! We also saw a rare migratory bird flock of Pacific Loons! Probably 100 together traveling to their breeding grounds into Canada and Alaska!
Always something to see out on the water, so far haven’t had the same trip twice!
