Spring is an exciting time in the waters off of San Diego! Not only is it the second half of the gray whale migration season, but we also have some other exciting species being sighted more regularly at this time of year.
In the morning we got a chance to watch about 100 common dolphins as well as a large raft of approximately 40 sea lions, and even got a quick glimpse of an adult minke whale.
In the afternoon we found a bait-fish bonanza with about 200 common dolphins, dozens of sea lions, hundreds of shearwaters, and one juvenile humpback whale all feeding together! After comparing photos, we confirmed that the humpback whale today is the same one spotted on our Sunday morning trip. Pretty neat!
