Today was a beautiful day to be out on the water: the sun was shining, the swells were small, and the sightings were sweet. The morning trip saw one Inshore Bottlenose Dolphin as we were leaving Mission Bay and an active pod of about 200 Common Dolphins. The afternoon had much better luck with a juvenile Fin Whale that came near our boat twice, and a Humpback Whale. The Humpback Whale was in the middle of a feeding frenzy that had multiple species of birds (California Brown Pelicans, Sooty Sheerwaters, Tern Birds, and Western Guls), California Sea Lions, and Common Dolphins all mixed in together. It was a wild end to a fairly calm day, but I’m hoping it’s a sign that tomorrow will be even more exciting. Come find out!
