Short-Beaked Common Dolphins made quite the appearance on our morning trip! After reaching deep water off the continental shelf/drop off, we encountered an exciting pod of Short-Beaked Common Dolphins that were traveling steadily southward! By joining them in their southbound movement, we found sub-group after sub-group of Common Dolphins, both Short and Long-Beaked. The water conditions were in our favor and resembled a grease-slick for the majority of our trip. This made itvery easy for everyone to see the dolphins swimming alongside our boat below the surface! A few small calves were spotted, along with some mating pairs. Each group took a turn bow-riding The Privateer and interacting with us. It was a beautiful, entertaining day on the water to say the least! Hopefully we’ll see some more whale watchers on the boat, bright and early tomorrow morning.
