We had a beautiful day on the water today with around 200 common dolphins! We made our way out of mission bay under cloudy skies and glassy water with great visibility. At about 5 miles we encountered a large Mola mola at the surface and as we passed it, it dove below. Just after we reached the drop off, we spotted splashes on the horizon through the binoculars. Dolphins! We had mixed behaviors going on as we approached. Some of them were resting and just rolling at the surface, some were leaping in the air and a lot of them raced towards the boat to bow ride. We were able to join this pod for quite a while before we headed North in search of some baleen. Some of us spotted a large flying fish on our turn North but unfortunately we couldn’t find a baleen whale today. The conditions were great the whole trip and we returned home under sunny skies!
