We enjoyed a Super Cetacean Saturday! We had two amazing trips so far. During the morning trip, we set out to the west and observed spout after spout on the horizon. We caught up with at least 10+ Blue whales out there. The first Blue popped up right next to us and lifted its tail upon its sounding dive. We followed another pair of Blue whales to the south and encountered two separate Minke whales cruising nearby. Then we found a cow/calf pair of Fin whales! We turned off the engines and watched in awe as the calf circled our boat! The mother Fin whale surfaced nearby and seemed to call her calf over, as the calf swam straight back toward her. We caught up with a big pod of ~100 Long-beaked Common dolphins on our way in. During the afternoon cruise, we set out for the same zone. We observed similar Blue whale sightings as they surfaced all around us. We got amazing looks at 3 separate Blue whales lifting their flukes on our tour. At one point we were in a Blue whale sandwich, as we had a Blue whale on both sides of the boat! We sighted the same Fin whale cow/calf pair again!

The sunset trip today was another great trip! We headed straight out to the drop-off where the whales have bee hanging out – we immediately spotted a single blue whale, followed by a fin whale – then a quick succession of 7+ spouts out west! We couldn’t resist running out a little further to hang out with the group of gentle giants and we were lucky enough to hang out with them for a few surfacing cycles before returning to shore.
