We had a Terrific Tuesday with TONS of Long-beaked Common dolphins seen all throughout the afternoon trip! We set out to the west and our first pod of ~100 Commons were busy feeding so they would go down for dives and then pop up away from us. After a few tries, we managed to see them next to our boat! We set out to the west and our second pod was pretty fun! They were very boat friendly! We continued out and spotted a huge pod of ~400 individuals! We observed some cool feeding frenzies with lots of birds diving in the water feeding! We even found the largest nursery pod ever! There had to be around 30 cow/calf pairs! There was also one dolphin that had a cookie cutter shark bite on the top of its tail stock!
We will update you on our next sunset trip!
Our sunset trip was un-beach-lievable! We saw so many pods of long-beaked common dolphins! The dolphin pods went on for miles and miles. Each pod consisted of at least ~150 long-beaked common dolphins! We also saw a small of ~10 offshore bottlenose dolphins, a mola-mola and a mystery shark! We also saw a great feeding frenzy of California brown pelicans. We’re excited to FALL in love with more cetaceans this Autumn.
