We had two amazing trips with hundreds of Common dolphins sighted throughout the day! We also had 7-8 Fin whales sighted on the afternoon trip!
On our morning trip, we pointed our nose to the SW but noticed hundreds of birds diving in the water to the north! We changed direction and caught up with ~500 Short-beaked Common dolphins playfully cruising to the north! We loved to see them race up to us and ride the bow! There were so many of cow/calf pairs spotted all around the boat! We had the best time with them as we watched them breach and porpoise near by! We did spot a few possible spouts and waited to see if anything surfaced but never caught spotted anything again!
Our afternoon trip was FINcredible! Se sighted a trio of Inshore bottlenose dolphins at the mouth of the Mission bay jetties! On our way out to deeper water we sighted a large raft of ~15 California sea lions checking us out! We almost reached the 8-miles from Mission Bay and were in the whale zone! We sighted a couple spouts that belonged to Fin whales! Before we knew it there were spouts sighted all around and down to the south of us! We were in Fin whale soup! Lol! We were excited to see spout after spout all around our boat! We didn’t know where to look next because we could hear their big exhalations nearby and could see spouts toward the horizon! We even noticed one of the Fin that had a Blue whale stature! There are Fin/Blue whale hybrids out there and it would be amazing to see one in our backyard! We will ask the experts to see if we have a match! The Fin whales were feeding on krill and we know because we spotted whale POOP! It was a reddish brown color that indicates krill!
We are excited for tomorrow! Book now! The whales are here!
