Misty morning mayhem was INCREDIBLE – the action from last night – IT’S LINGERING AROUND!
This morning we set out into some dense fog but got snuck up on by a humpback whale while we were on our way to where we left everything last night. This whale popped up just 20 feet off of our bow and let us to a thick pod of dolphins where we found more humpback, whales, and fin whales! It was absolute biomass insanity! We had a 4 individual humpback whales, 2 fin whales and they were surrounded by more than 500 dolphins!
This was an epic, feeding frenzy, everybody showed up to the banquet table today, sea birds, sea lions, cetaceans alike. There were so many whales in every direction I didn’t know which way to look or point out to the guests, but the guests were all happily surrounded by wildlife, it wasn’t really all that crucial – everywhere you looked – there were whales and dolphins.
The weather cleared for the afternoon trip while the mayhem slowed. By slowed, i mean, it’s still FANTASTIC! We had two feeding humpbacks, a few hundred dolphins and a fin whale as well!
One more to go! We’ll keep you updated.
We experienced CETACEAN HEAVEN on today’s sunset trip. Dolphinitely another magical day spent on the water! Sea conditions were super glassy, great visibility & warm weather. We headed north towards the La Jolla sea canyon and encountered an abundance of ocean wildlife! We saw a feeding frenzy with hundreds of birds such as sooty shearwaters, elegant terns & California brown pelicans; at least ~700 long-beaked common dolphins, a raft of sea lions, and so many wonderful baleen whales! We saw 4 HUMPBACKS & 2 FIN WHALES and 1 mystery spout for a total of 7 baleen whales sighted just on the sunset trip! Talk about having a whale of a time!! The rainbow sherbet sunset was the cherry on top to FINish a perfect day on the water. We have more fun coming up tomorrow, maybe take mom out to experience Mother Nature and the wild ocean first hand? ❤
