Well, today was pretty incredible to say the least. This morning we got word that orcas were up near La Jolla and beelined it up there. What we saw was a once in a lifetime experience! We had a pod of around 12 eastern tropical pacific killer whales hunting a bottlenose dolphin! While the sight of a hunt can give you mixed feelings, what we saw was nature at its most raw and definitely something no one on the boat will forget. This afternoon they were straight out of mission bay about 6 miles, and we got to hang out with the pod as they slowly made their way south. By the sunset trip, they were in Mexico and too far for us to get to but we were able to hang out with a southbound gray whale! Whether the orcas will be back in our waters anytime soon is anyone’s guess but here’s to hoping!
