San Diego Whale Watching saw the first reported gray whale of the year today! We were coming in and spotted what we assumed was a humpback from a distance. When we approached, we sure were surprised to see a juvenile gray whale (possibly a yearling) at the surface. It was milling around for a bit, then turned south.
We’ve been waiting for our first gray…I don’t think anyone anticipated it this early! We should start seeing more and more of these as wintertime progresses.
We also saw an inshore bottlenose dolphin at the mouth of the jetties today. Guests got to see some bowriding action from our toothed whale buddy wink emoticon
