Today was a perfect example of how unpredictable nature is; we saw a total of 9 Gray Whales today…all in the afternoon! The morning’s trip had two awesome pods of Pacific White Sided Dolphins, one that was feeding and one that was wake-surfing. In the afternoon, we saw a handful of Bottlenose Dolphins on our way out and back into the jetties. Offshore, we saw 9 different Gray Whales. The first was snorkeling, an extremely elusive behavior that didn’t give us a great look. After that, we headed toward the kelp forest to find a cow-calf pair! This mom and her brand new baby Gray Whale were slowly making their way down to Baja. Then, we headed further west to find two trios of Gray Whales. There were spouts illuminating the horizon in all directions! I guess the saying is true that when it rains, it pours…for whales too.
