We couldn’t have asked for better conditions on the water this morning! The sea was calm and flat, while the visibility was perfect for seeking out wildlife. With the the conditions on our side, we spotted numerous species of sea bird including our first Bonaparte’s Gull of the season! After searching far and wide, two boat-friendly pods of Common Dolphins were encountered. First, a small handful of them raced toward the boat and took us by surprise. We observed them until splashes from a much larger group was seen further off in the distance. The second pod was estimated to consist of ~120 adults and young calves, mixed together and exhibiting quite a bit of surface activity. They were very boat-friendly and spent a lot of time bow-riding and surfing with us. We’re hoping these fabulous conditions stick around for the weekend. If you’d like to be out on the water this evening, check out our sister company, Cruise San Diego, as they’ll be hosting another Sunset Dolphin/Whale Watch Cruise this evening (departing at 3:30).
